Does Everyone Require Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

Does Everyone Require Wisdom Tooth Extraction?Wisdom teeth – what are they? They are the third molars in the very back of your mouth and they may or may not need to be removed.

They may not need to be removed if they are healthy, grown in completely or what is called fully erupted, positioned correctly and biting. Properly with their opposing teeth and are able to be cleaned as part of daily hygiene practices.

Why Do Wisdom Teeth Require Extraction?

Many times, your wisdom teeth don't have room to grow properly and can cause many problems. Erupting wisdom teeth can grow at various angles in the jaw sometimes and frequently even horizontally.

Problems can include wisdom teeth that will remain completely hidden within the gums and if they aren't able to emerge normally the wisdom teeth become trapped or what is called impacted within your jaw a lot of times, resulting in infection or can cause a cyst that can damage other tooth roots or bone support.

Wisdom teeth can emerge partially through the gums. Because this area is hard to see and clean, wisdom teeth that only partially emerge create a passageway that can become a magnet for bacteria that cause gum disease and oral infection. Crowding of nearby teeth. If the wisdom teeth don't have enough room to come in properly, they may crowd or damage nearby teeth.

Some dentists may recommend removing wisdom teeth if they do not fully emerge, but many dentists believe it is better to remove wisdom teeth at a younger age before the roots and the bone are fully formed and when recover would be faster after surgery. This is the reason many young people will have them pulled before they become a problem, but it is not necessarily required.

If you are experiencing pain and repeated infection and extensive tooth decay and damage to your nearby teeth, then it is time to call a dentist. The decision isn't always clear.
